DAG VAN DE WERELDAARDE

🌍 World Earth Day 2024

This year’s theme is Planet vs. Plastics, as a call to raise #awareness about the health risks posed by plastic #pollution and the damage it inflicts on the #environment. Special emphasis is placed on protecting babies, who are the most exposed to the harmful effects of #microplastics.
The primary focus is on spreading awareness about the harm that plastics cause to human health, animals, and overall #biodiversity.

⁉ DID YOU KNOW that, according to research led by scientists from Columbia University, a liter of bottled water contains 240,000 #nanoplastic fragments and it takes six times more water to make a plastic water bottle than the bottle itself contains?
Plastic breaks down into microplastics, particles up to five millimeters in diameter, and nanoplastics, up to one micrometer. They release toxic chemicals that end up in the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe. Nanoplastics can enter the bloodstream, and research has shown their presence in the hearts, lungs, and brains of animals and humans.

MVidee NGO is not only committed to the 3 Rs of #sustainability:

1️⃣ #Reducing waste,
2️⃣ #Reusing
3️⃣ #Recycling resources and products
in an effort to cut down on the amount of waste we throw away.

MVidee NGO is also inspired by some others additional #actions:

4️⃣ #Rethink, “do I really need that?”
5️⃣ #Refuse, prioritize things that are good for our environment.
6️⃣ #Repair, try to replace and/or fix things.

This 6 Rs is an easy framework to follow and adopt into our daily lives to reduce the #impact of our actions on the environment. We can all play our part by simply thinking a bit more and by adapting our behavior so that we minimize our environmental #footprint.
